People who wants to make some quick bucks out of our goodwill can always use another HP No (eg. prepaid card), a fake name and a new email address to sell the goods they collected. In my humble opinion, well-to-do people would normally not resort to such acts. Since we are giving our unwanted items away, it would not be meaningful to track them down and shame them.
Perhaps fellow Free-Cyclers might want to consider asking for justifications before giving the item, for example "Why do you need the item?"
As for me, I would normally follow-up on my posts to say the item is [TAKEN] and it has found its new owner, Mr or Ms XXX.
This practice might help. :)
