| Frankly, I believe that while this group is aptly named sgfreecycle because we pass on items to other members FREE, it does not equate as charity. The whole purpose for me joining this group is not to get things free or dump things either. Morally or ethically, I dislike wasting things especially when they can be reuse or repurpose. So it does not matter whether commercial companies get the items. In fact, I think it might even be better as those who buy from these companies truly needs them. I give bags of stuff to an old lady at Sungei Road about 3 times a week. It gladdens me when she told me that 8 CD-Writers I gave her netted her $30 income. And the things were not wasted as buyer will put to use since he paid for them. In conclusion, I feel we should stick to the spirit of recycling free to all, individuals or companies. What we ought to change/consider is the practice of gifting to first responder. Not everyone reads email the moment the sgfreecycle item gets posted. If we takes time to run thru the emails, we might then have a better idea of the responders. Thanks |
