my boy lost his Chinese language textbook 1A (not higher chinese) in school. I went to the bookshop in his school, wanting to buy a replacement, but to my "horror", the shopkeeper said that they don't have it and they don't intend to bring it in anymore as this will be the final year the ministry is using it (next year they will introduce new syllables). She also mentioned that Popular does not have it anymore as a few students who lost the book told her that.
