I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Terri Lyn. I am 41 years old and divorced with no children. My first husband wanted them but after the divorce, I had to an emergency hysterectomy so that was not in grand scheme of things. I have a mini pin dog who is black and tan and a very large charcoal gray cat with gold eyes.. The cat is over 3 feet long. I live in the high desert in an apartment. I am trying really hard to be into anti-consumerism. I feel we are marketed and pandered to so much and told we need so many things we don't need and I got suckered into that for years. I used to live where there were a lot of thrift shops and I have not found them all here in the high desert yet. I mostly shop Walmart and the dollar stores. I read Judith Levine's "Not Buying It" and it changed my whole attitude. As silly as it sounds, I have bought other books on anti-consumerism. I know a lot of people are anti-Walmart but an avocado at the super market is $1.50 right now and 58 cents at Walmart. I used to live in the produce belt where things were cheap and plentiful. I cannot believe the prices of things in the markets as I shopped produce stands and got organic for what I am paying for things sprayed with pesticides here in the store. Though I am not going as Judith Levine, I am tracking all my purchases and trying to to buy any more non-necessities for a year. I like to read a lot. I read a variety. A lot of non-fiction. I am into magazines and comic books. I am trying to each myself video games though I am lousy at them. I have recently given up caffeine. It was keeping me awake but also giving me a nervous breakdown at the same time.
