Hello fellow recyclers,
There have been so many posts saying that because recycling is not about rich or poor, therefore one should not restrict receivers of items to the poor. i disagree with this view and here's why.
First of all, it is precisely because this group is just about recycling and not not about anything else that givers should not be restricted as to who they may prefer to give. As long as people want to recycle their things, they qualify to be members of this group. Anything beyond that, like what they want to give it, where they want to give, what time they want to give, & who they want to give to, is up to the giver.
2ndly, almost any giver uses some sort of criterion or criteria to select their receivers.
Some practice first to request, first to get.
Others "prefer those who make an effort to collect", to quote one recylcer.
If we were to apply the logic of what we've been hearing so far about 'Recycling si not about rich or poor...etc',
then we would have to say that those who practice 'first to request, first to get.' are wrong because recycling is not about speed in replying, we should give those who reply later a chance, etc.
So you see, everyone has some kind of preference as to who they would prefer to give.
Who practices: I would give to the the first person who's email request I have opened up randomly'?
Almost no one.
In fact, the truly needy & the poor are more likely to show up for the gift than others.
So let's not restrict who the givers want to give, for as long as the giver is recycling, they qualify to use this group for their recycling.
