Boil 1 cup water, 1 1/2 cups chopped dates, 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp salt until jamlike, let cool. Mix 1/4 tsp salt, 1 stick butter, cubed, 1 1/4 cups rolled oats, 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp baking powder. Press three quarters oat mixture into greased 8" baking dish.
