RE: [SimplifyMe] Re: window replacement

Sandy you can go to Lowes and get a film to put on the windows. I did and it blocks the heat from the sun but allows light in  .I put it on the windows at the back of the house as it gets the hot morning sun and it has cut our A/C bills alot. Plus you can see out and no one can see it. It is privacy film.  Suzy

Hi Charlene,

We too have a doublewide, we live out in the country on 5 acres and
the house has 6" outside walls.
We hated the windows that were in the house with we got it so we
replaced all the windows with windows
from Lowes. The windows that were in it opened 2X in otherwords you
had to open an inside window and
then open the window that was the outside window. We hated that so
much, and so we got double
insulated windows and pulled the old ones out and slowly but surely
we replaced all the windows in the
whole house. We had to make the openings a little bigger (longer) to
put standard windows in which
was fine with me I like more light anyway. But last summer it got so
hot here in central Tx that we had
to put solar screens on the windows that faced the setting sun, which
is the front of the house.
We took the ones that were covering the front livingroom later since
I hated that it was so dark in the
house, and we have a HUGE front porch on our house so unless its
really hot just closing the blinds
keeps most of the heat out.
Oh and I would guess we prob saved about $20 a month on our elec bill
doing this. Also we replaced
all the lights in the house with the new low energy lights and that
saved a bunch more.

Hope this helps and anything else I can answer for you let me
know. We moved out here from a
stick right in the middle of town, was a big adjustment but so worth
it in the end. Oh and our house
is all electric too........

Good luck with your choice,
Sandy
