Daughters of Tomorrow
DOT is a registered charity organization in Singapore whose mission is to facilitate livelihood opportunities for underprivileged women, and support them in building financially independent and resilient families. Our beneficiaries are women aged 20 to 60 who are from low-income families who currently face limitations on access to gainful employment due to child-rearing responsibilities, lack of flexibility in employment practices and lack of focused training and skills enhancement.
What we set out to achieve:
- Job and income enablement for underprivileged women whose talents are otherwise under-utilised.
- Reduction of number of families in poverty.
- more conducive environment for children from low-income brought about by financial upliftment
- Employment culture in Singapore that is socially-integrative
DOT has started a series of basic IT literacy workshops for groups of women with the help of volunteers from Rockwell Automation who has put together the course and also helping to run the program. We have about 10-14 ladies are enrolled in each run of this class.
The class format is 4 weeks of on-site classes where they are taught basic and advanced word processing as well as spreadsheets. This is followed by a 8 week virtual mentorship where are will be guided by mentors to further practice and hone the skills which they have picked up. (Please see the poster attached on the current on-going workshop)
We are now seeking support in the form of 2nd hand laptops for the women so they can have a hands-on learning experience, as well as use the laptops for home-based jobs we hope to bridge them with thereafter, so they can earn an income.
