Look in your area to see if there is a Habitat for Humanity Restore - it's a thrift store for home improvement stuff. You can go to their website and they have all the Restore listed by state.
We are replacing our windows one at a time with windows from a Restore; we figure when we are done we will have spent around $120 - as compared to the $1,000's it would be for brand new ones. We've had to wait on some, just so we could find the right size, but it's worth it - last winter saw some decrease in utilities, should see more this winter as we've replaced more.
AND I don't have to cover with plastic anymore!!
