You worry wasps will spoil your cookout, to keep them away---Mix 1/2 cup sugar and 2 cups water, bring to a boil, let cool. Pour into an empty soda bottle, leave uncovered in an area of the yard away from guests. Wasps will be attracted to the mix, once they fly inside the bottle, they will be trapped...
