PATRIOTIC FLAG CAKE---When cake is cut, each piece will look like the American flag.
MAKES 8 SERVINGS.
1 box white cake mix
2 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
28 drops blue food coloring
4 drops purple food coloring
3 pints raspberry sorbet
2 1/2 pints vanilla ice cream
2 pints heavy cream
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Heat oven to 325 degrees. Coat a 9" round springform pan with cooking spray. Prepare cake mix as directed, adding cocoa powder and food colorings to batter. Transfer to pan, bake until done 45 min. *Let cake cool, then remove from pan. Use a 5" circle of parchment paper to cut a circle from center of cake. Freeze large cake ring. Cut a 6x30" strip of parchment paper. Clean springform pan, then butter it, line side with parchment, the paper will extend above the rim of the pan so you can build a tall cake. *Let 1 pint sorbet soften slightly. Spread in pan, then lay a piece of plastic wrap on top, pack sorbet into pan. Freeze until firm 30 min. Let 1 pint vanilla ice cream soften, spread in pan, cover with plastic wrap, press evenly. Freeze until firm, then repeat to make 1 more layer each of sorbet and ice cream, 4-layers total. Freeze until firm. *Place blue cake ring on top of ice cream, return to freezer. Cut off top 1 1/2" of remaining sorbet carton, remove carton, wrap sorbet in plastic wrap. Press into a 5" round, then place flattened sorbet into hole in cake. Freeze until firm. Cut off top 1 1/2" of remaining ice cream carton. Flatten as you did the sorbet, place on top of raspberry layer. Repeat with bottom section of sorbet. Freeze until firm. *Beat heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Remove springform ring and parchment collar from cake. Cover cake with whipped cream. Freeze until ready to SERVE & ENJOY...
