FLOWERPOT CAKE---Cake that looks like a flowerpot filled with flowers. No picture. Sorry.
MAKES 8 SERVINGS.
1 box devil's food cake mix
16 oz tub plus 1 cup milk chocolate frosting
3 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
24 oz pkg white fondant
3/4 tsp red gel food coloring
1/4 tsp orange gel food coloring
Mint sprigs and edible flowers
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 6" round and a 8" round cake pan with parchment. Coat with cooking spray. Prepare cake mix as directed, divide between pans, bake 30 min. Let cool. *Level tops of cakes, save trimmings. Halve cakes horizontally. Working on a plate, stack 8" layers, then 6" layers, frosting between each layer. *Trim edges of layer cake all the way around to make a upside down pot shape. Cover cake with all but 1/2 cup of remaining frosting, freeze 30 min. *Sprinkle 3 tbs cocoa powder on a sheet of parchment, put fondant on top, make a small well in middle, put food coloring in well. Knead until color is even. Dust a surface with cocoa powder, roll out colored fondant into a 24x6 1/2" rectangle. Cut off a 24X1 1/4" strip of fondant, set aside. *Wrap wide piece of fondant around cake. Trim excess. Reroll fondant scraps, cut out a 5" circle, press fondant circle on top of cake to form the pot bottom. Invert cake onto a board. Brush the thin strip of fondant with water, attach to top edge of cake, allowing strip to come slightly above the edge. Trim ends. *Cover top of cake with remaining frosting, then crumble cake trimmings on top to look like dirt. When ready to serve, stick mint sprigs and edible flowers into cake. SERVE & ENJOY...
