I must have missed the original post. For an itchy animal like dog or cat, look to diet. Eliminate corn, all colorings and preservatives. That's the first step. If you must go commercial for their food, go high end. You really do get what you pay for with animal food. As with anything, garbage in, garbage out, and the best diet is what Nature intended, a raw diet. You'll see more than decreased itching. But, in transitioning to a raw diet, do it slowly, as their bodies have to adjust.
Lots of websites with this information. The link in my sig is my rescue book, all the diet information is in there, or go do a search. Sorry, I'm in bad financial state, or I'd just post the information.
Also look at the environment. Anything new? I don't know where you live, but fleas can be a problem year round in the warmer climates. Allergies can happen at any time, and to about anything. Check the environment, but it's really best (and cheaper, too) to move the animal to a raw diet.
