We have a gliding chair that was used in my sons nursery whilst he was small for the late night feeds.
It did have a hideous cover on but it was replaced with a Laura Ashley Nautical fabric. The nautical fabric is not removable - it has been sewn on. But somebody with a small knowledge of sewing would be able to unpick stiching take it off to wash and maybe put a zip on it for the future.
It would also look nice painted - but you would need patience
