Hi Kathi, I have been using the Oxyclean spray to get out stains and finds it works really well for that and I know I saw it in powder form at Costco so perhaps throwing a little of that into the wash might help. I am not sure if you would react to it or not, I have never read the ingredients.
We rarely use bleach at our house but I cannot stand having stains on my clothes so Oxyclean saves the day for me. I have not found anything that works as well with my washer and water. My sister lives in the country and is on a well - her clothes have an orange tinge no matter what she seems to do - just her water source.
I am also super fussy with the laundry...whites only get washed with whites, towels only get washed with towels, reds-pinks-oranges all get washed together...it takes a little more time but in the long run, the clothes look better longer.
